Frequently Asked Questions

Why does it cost money to visit the cats?

Taking care of 30+ cats is expensive. We constantly need to buy cat food, litter, toys, and cleaning supplies. We also need to pay the rent so the kitties have a place to live and you have a place to come visit them! When cats get adopted, the adoption fee is paid to the wonderful rescues we work with, not to P2. This is why we charge an entry fee. All of the money we earn goes right back into caring for the cats.

Why is there an adoption fee?

When the amazing organizations we work with rescue a homeless cat, they need to get it spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Oftentimes, these cats often require additional veterinary care and medication, which can get expensive. The rescues also need to purchase cat food, litter, toys, and cleaning supplies. They rely exclusively on adoption fees and donations to allow them to keep rescuing cats!

Can I bring my own cat?

No, we do not allow guests to bring outside cats to the lounge.

Do you serve food?

No, but you are welcome to bring food and drink purchased elsewhere in University Mall into the lounge.

Is the lounge accessible?

The lounge is wheelchair/mobility aid accessible. There is a gate to keep the kittens from escaping the kitten room, but we are happy to remove it to allow guests to enter! We are also happy to move chairs into the kitten room to allow guests to sit comfortably.

Although we strive to create a calming environment, when the lounge is busy—especially on weekends—it can be overstimulating. We recommend guests with sensory needs call us after making their appointment so we can ensure a sensory-friendly experience.

Why is there a minimum age requirement to visit the cats, and why does it go up on weekends and holidays?

For insurance reasons, all guests must be at least 4 years old. On the weekend, the lounge tends to be crowded, so we raised the age to 7. Younger kids require more supervision, and a crowded lounge means our employees and volunteers are stretched a bit too thin to adequately supervise younger children.

What is your mask/vaccine policy?

We are no longer requiring masks or checking vaccine cards. However, masks are strongly recommended, especially for those with cat allergies!

Why do I have to take off my shoes?

Guests frequently sit on the floor to be closer to the cats, so we strive to keep it as clean as possible. While we clean the floor daily, a constant stream of dirty footprints makes it hard to keep up! We also want to minimize the risk of tracking chemicals or bacteria that can be harmful to cats into the lounge. Guests over the age of 62, as well as guests with mobility issues, are of course welcome to keep their shoes on.

Are you hiring?

Not currently, but we are looking for volunteers!

How can I volunteer?

When you visit the lounge, let one of our cat wranglers know that you’re interested in volunteering! We will give you a form to fill out and answer any questions.
